Postdoctoral Research Associate - Electrical and Computer Engineering

What We Are Looking For

Baylor university is seeking a short-term postdoctoral researcher for computational research in quantum or molecular computing. The computational researcher will work onsite at Baylor University to perform scientific calculations in support of research projects and proposals under the supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Enrique Blair. The chosen candidate will be expected contribute to the authoring of scholarly scientific publications and funding proposals by developing scientific visualizations and written documentation based on the results of scientific work. The researcher will meet regularly with the principal investigator and collaborators. The researcher is also encouraged to propose novel ideas, contribute their expertise in dialogue with collaborators and team members, and provide informal mentorship or advice to graduate and undergraduate researchers.

A Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, computer science, computer engineering, materials science and engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. In addition to the degree requirement the candidate should also have experience in quantum computer programming or the ab initio modeling of molecules or solids. Competency in the use of Python is required.

The preferred start date for this position is prior to October 1st 2024. This is a temporary assignment until May 31st 2025 regardless of the start date. Applications will be received and reviewed until the position is filled.

What You Will Do

Objectives for this postdoctoral fellowship are to develop and perform ab initio or quantum computing calculations related to any of the following projects:
  • The design and modeling of computational molecules using classical or quantum computers
  • NISQ methods for modeling molecular circuits
  • Modeling molecule-surface interactions
  • Calculation of superconducting properties in materials
  • Other topics, as proposed by the postdoctoral fellow, research team, or experimental collaborators

The postdoctoral fellow may be responsible for any of the following, depending on research needs:
  • Conducting novel research related to projects of interest
  • Collaborating with or mentoring graduate students or undergraduate researchers
  • Attending regular meetings with the principal investigator and co-investigators
  • Contributing to the authorship of scientific research papers and proposals for external funding
  • Aid with the preparation of project-related reports, manuscripts and presentations
  • Conduct research design and oversee experiments
  • Develop and establish experimental procedures
  • Develop and implement research quality control procedures
  • Analyze and verify the accuracy and validity of data; prepare reports and develop recommendations based on results.
  • Work with highly technical and complex research instruments, such as high-performance computers or quantum computers
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission
  • Ability to comply with university policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
