The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for a Visiting Research Engineer. The Visiting Research Engineer is responsible for processing and characterization of nanostructured materials and the maintenance and operation of the TFCP Lab facility and associated instrumentation in strong coordination with the laboratory principal and Co-principal investigator.
• Maintain and upgrade TFCP Laboratory equipment, including purchasing, maintaining inventory of consumables, coordinating repairs, and ensuring equipment is in working condition.
• Execute sponsored research on FFESS-processed advanced materials.
• Contribute to PI-led research proposals, research papers, reports, and presentations.
• Work with PI and Co-PI and contribute to the training of students on the use of TFCP facilities and equipment.
• Act as the lab safety officer and ensure security of facilities and information.
• Develop and/or contribute to proposals for future laboratory infrastructure, and other related activities.
• B.S. degree in electrical and computer engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, or related field.
• 1-2 years of prior experience with hands-on laboratory research, operation of complex research equipment, data acquisition and experiment design.
• 1-2 years of prior education or experience in more than one of the following areas: advanced materials processing, thin film characterization, optical microscopy and materials morphology characterization.
• 1-2 years of working in a multidisciplinary research team.
• M.S. degree in electrical and computer engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, or related field.
• 2 years of related experience in a government, industry, or academic laboratory.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $70,000 â€" 80,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Employees hired into this position will be expected to work onsite on a full-time basis. Sponsorship for work Authorization is not available for this position.
