Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Department of Engineering

A full-time tenure-track Assistant professor position in the Department of Engineering in Fall of 2025, with a specialty in construction management.

Qualifications, expectations, and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following lists:

Qualifications (required):
  • A Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or any closely related field from a U.S. accredited institution is preferred.
  • Candidates who hold a master's degree in construction management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or any closely related field and have experience in the construction industry, as well as those who are currently pursuing a Ph.D., are also invited to apply. These applicants must provide proof of completion of at least 18 credit hours of graduate-level courses in any of these areas.
  • Willingness to teach a variety of upper and lower division undergraduate courses in Construction Management.
  • Strong commitment to and interest in undergraduate teaching and mentorship.
  • Knowledge of software packages appropriate to the construction industry.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated English communication skills.
  • Applicants with a master's degree will be considered for non-tenure-track position.

Responsibilities:
  • Teaching undergraduate courses in Construction Management, including Construction Graphics, AutoCAD, Statics, Strength of Materials, Structural Analysis, Revit, design and lab courses in Timber, Concrete, and Steel, as well as any additional courses requested by the department or program.
  • Additional courses that the candidate will teach include Introduction to Construction Management, Construction Documents, Construction Law and Contracts, Construction Technology, Construction Equipment, Principles of Sustainable Construction, Construction Scheduling, Construction Safety, Construction Estimating, Construction Materials and Methods, and the Senior Capstone course.
  • Teaching excellence in the ACCE Construction Management curriculum and meet their compliance requirements.
  • Prepare and submit ACCE compliance documentation.
  • Assisting in the development of new construction management courses in the Construction Management curriculum.
  • Directing, conducting, and publishing results of applied research.
  • Advising senior design projects.
  • Evaluating and improving curriculum, courses, and laboratories.
  • Developing innovative instructional techniques and reporting on the methods and technology.
  • Recruiting and advising construction management students.
  • Working closely in partnership with construction industry partners

The University:

The University of Tennessee at Martin is a primary campus in The University of Tennessee system. The campus is located in northwest Tennessee, approximately 125 miles north of Memphis and 150 miles west of Nashville. The University of Tennessee at Martin has a combined graduate and undergraduate enrollment of approximately 7,300. The emphasis of the department is solidly on excellence in teaching, undergraduate senior design and internship experiences and career preparation. We seek candidates who demonstrate a similar commitment. In the spring of 2023, the department of Engineering will move into a new 120,000 sq. ft. Engineering and Science building. The department includes six tenured/tenure track faculty members, two term faculty and three part time retired faculty with nearly 250 undergraduate majors (over 25% of whom are first-generation college students) and offers an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (BSE) with concentrations in civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, and mechatronics engineering. The department offers BS in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).

The BS in Construction Management (BSCM) program is a new program within the department of engineering. The program was approved to be offered beginning Fall 2022.
