JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Student Loan Coordinator provides financial aid counseling and administrative support duties to coordinate the loan processing and loan operations in the Office of Financial Aid. The Student Loan Coordinator coordinates loan processing with the Student Loan Manager which includes application and eligibility review, posting to student records, as well as reconciling federal, state, institutional, and private loans. The Student Loan Coordinator must be knowledgeable of federal, State and Institutional rules, regulations and procedures related to student aid. The Student Loan Coordinator counsels prospective students, current students and all other inquirers via telephone, in person, in writing or by email regarding student loans and provides information in a courteous, helpful manner. The Student Loan Coordinator is the individual in the office who will coordinate and triage all loan related inquiries and be the subject matter expert to answer questions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:

Counsel current and prospective Parents and Students specifically in relation to student loans - in person, by phone, or via virtual meeting (Zoom) by:
  • Providing accurate and immediate responses to varied audiences, communicating effectively and professionally, utilizing extensive knowledge of Federal Student Aid Rules and Regulations and WPI Financial Aid Policies and resources, regarding options for funding a WPI education,
  • Troubleshooting issues and questions, using judgement to escalate to the Student Loan Manager when needed.
  • Answer questions and address concerns from students and parents regarding student and parent loans.
  • Teach students to understand and successfully manage their loan obligations in conjunction with the Student Loan Manager and financial literacy team.

    Coordination of student and parent loan programs by:
  • Coordinate the monthly reconciliation with the Business Office and Student Loan Manager.
  • Be the initial point of contact for all student loan inquiries, including troubleshooting issues and concerns.
  • Coordinate the Massachusetts No Interest Loan program, including paperwork and documentation.
  • Coordinate the weekly private loan disbursement rosters.
  • Enter and adjust private loans in PowerFAIDs.
  • Responsible for sending monthly DRAP letters.
  • Responsible for exit counseling.
  • Assist with the close out of the federal direct loan programs.

    Maintain and update complex office systems by:
  • Integrating accurate financial aid information into PowerFAIDS and SalesForce.
  • Logging all contact with internal and external entities, adding supporting documents, setting alerts and adding commentary.
  • Enter and update student loan information and comments into PowerFAIDs.
  • Import daily Direct Loan files through EdConnect and into PowerFAIDs, including reconciliation files.
  • Acting as a liaison with Bursar's Office, Registrar's Office and Admissions Office and other WPI departments to provide up to date information and excellent customer service to parents, students and employees as related to loan inquiries.

    Coordinate all federal and state exit counseling by:
  • Provide resources to students as needed.
  • Creating and requesting reports for graduating students or those on leave of absence or who withdraw from WPI.
  • Determine which students require an email notification as well as a mailed notification for exit counseling.
  • Answer questions related to exit counseling.
  • Stay up to date on current Federal, State, and Institutional aid rules and policies regarding exit counseling.

    Responsible for understanding and interpreting federal, state, private, and institutional rules, regulations and policies as it relates to student loans by:
  • Stay up to date on current Federal, State, and Institutional aid rules, regulations and policies.
  • Reading and reviewing electronic announcements from the Department of Education.
  • Reading and researching articles and updates from NASFAA (National Aid Association).
  • Utilizing resources such as the federal register, the federal student aid handbook, and NASFAA's website.
  • Utilizing training opportunities through various agencies, as well as the Department of Education and NASFAA.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 Year / Associate Degree
  • Minimum 2 Year Customer service and loan related experience.

    This is initially an on-site role with the opportunity for a flexible, hybrid schedule following initial probationary period.
