The Construction Technology department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking highly-qualified individuals to be our Vocational Technician - Construction Technology! The incumbent provides vocational instruction and clerical support in the Construction Technology program. Prepares equipment, materials, supplies, and training aids for classroom instruction and student laboratory assignments. Provides instruction and assists students in the proper use and operation of shop equipment. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly learning environment. We are looking for someone who has experience in assisting in maintaining, operating, and supporting a construction technology program, including ordering and maintaining an inventory of equipment, tools, supplies, and materials and preparing equipment and materials for class instruction, demonstrations, and student laboratory exercises. The incumbent performs a variety of support functions to assist faculty in the general operation of the Construction Technology instructional program. The incumbent may lead the work of assigned work study students and embedded tutors. Experience in an academic setting is highly desirable.   • Schedule: Monday-Friday
  • Location: Trades, Technology, and Community Learning Campus (TTC) but will support both campuses.
  • Salary: Range 28, $4,894.54 - $6,018.56 Monthly
  • Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.
  • Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Duties


GENERAL PURPOSEUnder general supervision provides vocational instruction and clerical support in the Construction Technology program. Prepares equipment, materials, supplies, and training aids for classroom instruction and student laboratory assignments. Provides instruction and assists students in the proper use and operation of shop equipment. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly learning environment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSVocational Technician - Construction Technology is responsible for assisting in maintaining, operating, and supporting the District's pre-apprentice construction technology program, including ordering and maintaining an inventory of equipment, tools, supplies, and materials and preparing equipment and materials for class instruction, demonstrations, and student laboratory exercises. The incumbent performs a variety of support functions to assist faculty in the general operation of the Construction Technology instructional program. The incumbent may lead the work of assigned work study students and embedded tutors. Work assigned requires a detailed knowledge of subject areas applicable to the Construction Technology program and the ability to provide instruction to others in an effective manner. Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience: An Associate's degree in Construction Technology or a closely related field and two (2) years of journey-level construction experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
  1. A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
  2. A valid forklift operator's certificate must be obtained within six months of employment.
Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.
